Today, December 14, 2012, we are reminded of the sheer evil that surrounds us each day on this earth. A lone gunman entered a Connecticut Elementary school and killed adults as well as children. At this point, 28 dead. How tragic. How sad. How how horrible! How predictable. Yes, predictable. We are surrounded by evil people who plan to do evil things. Granted, no one knew that this person would do this thing on this day but predictable none the less. In the fallen world that we live in, bad things do happen.
My heart breaks for the families of those killed. There are no words to provide comfort today. My prayer is that the Holy Spirit will surround them as well as place Christian support systems in their paths. Take a moment to pray for those who were effected by this tragedy. I would remind you that the Dispatchers, Police, Fire and EMS personnel are effected as well. Having been the primary responder on some pretty horrific calls, they stay with you for a long time.
Phillips, Craig and Dean have a song that says: "You are God in heaven. And here am I on earth, So I'll let my words be few. Jesus, I am so in love with You." You don't have to say a lot, just call out to God.
Prayer is a powerful tool that we have access to. Let's use it. Not only can we pray for the ones involved in this shooting, we can pray that the next tragedy be thwarted even now. Our prayers are heard. Our prayers are answered.
Psalm 6:9 The LORD has heard my cry for mercy; the LORD accepts my prayer.
